About the Promise

The MiraCosta Promise will provide a year of college without fees and funding toward textbooks and instructional supplies to eligible students who commit to Promise requirements. The MiraCosta Promise is funded from a variety of current resources and private donations to the MiraCosta College Foundation.

Promise Elgibility

In order to be eligible for the MiraCosta Promise, a participant must:

  • Graduate in spring from any accredited high school located within the boundaries of the MiraCosta Community College District.
  • Apply to attend MiraCosta College for the nd commit to enrolling in 12 units or more each semester.
  • Be a resident of the state of California for tuition purposes (or be AB 540 eligible).
  • File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a Dream Act application by May 11, 2017 and qualify for the Board of Governors (BOG) Fee Waiver.

Students who complete the eligibility requirements will be automatically considered for the MiraCosta Promise

Promise Requirements

Eligible students who are interested in participating in the MiraCosta Promise must:

  • Sign the MiraCosta Promise Commitment
  • Complete the matriculation process, which includes orientation, assessment and academic advisement
  • Remain continuously enrolled in 12 units or more during the
  • Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA or better for the academic year.

  • If you are a continuing student (i.e. have not had two semesters or more off) you do not need to submit a new application.
  • If you are a returning student (i.e. have been gone more than two semesters) you will need to follow the steps above to submit a new application.

STEP 2: Get Priority Enrollment

  • All students (new and current) must complete matriculation in order to qualify for priority enrollment. Matriculation gets you off to a great start on your college career and leads to higher student success. Matriculation has four parts: assessments, orientation, advisement and education planning. The easiest way to take yourself through all the steps for matriculation is to log into your SURF Account and use the Matriculation Activity Guide!

The MiraCosta College Student Guide is issued annually and lists credit courses offered by subject, semester (fall/spring/summer) and by time of day (day/evening/hybrid). Class details for the current semester, including meeting days/time, instructor, campus/room number, may be viewed online through SURF .

The MiraCosta College Community Education Bulletin is issued three times a year (fall, spring, and summer) and includes listings and descriptions of fee-based noncredit classes for work skills, health education, personal enrichment, children and teens, workshops and excursions.

The MiraCosta College Continuing Education Schedule is issued twice a year (summer/fall and spring) and includes listings and descriptions of free noncredit classes for adult high school , English as a second language , citizenship , parenting, short-term vocational, CISCO Networking Academy , and special courses for seniors .
